My Funny Valentine tradition….

Every year I get a Valentine’s gift for that special someone. Unfortunately, that special someone has always been me. (Or perhaps fortunately….) One year it was a suitcase, another year a pair of Ray-Bans.

This time, it’s a longboard skateboard. Haha. It would only be for cruising and commuting. Don’t plan on going over 5 mph. I figure that I can practice at the empty lot across the street. Please pray that I don’t fall and hurt myself.

Happy VD to you….

“My Funny Valentine”

….is one of my all time fave songs. It’s a Rodgers show tune from the 1930s. Funny, but it’s not about Valentine’s Day. It’s about a character named Valentine LaMar in the Broadway musical. But I digress….

Somehow, I have created a funny Valentine’s tradition of my own. Each year, I give a Valentine’s gift to myself. (Sigh.) One year it was a guitar. One year it was luggage.

This year, I consider my trip to Europe as the gift. Oh yah. I got a gift card for Christmas, so I got myself a pair of tortoise Ray-Bans for the trip.

Hmm…. maybe having myself as my “Valentine” is not such a bad thing after all.

P.S. My favorite version of My Funny Valentine is by Tierney Sutton. Click on track 24.

A Valentine’s Tradition….

Every year I buy a Valentine’s Day gift. And like last year (well…. every year,) the gift is for myself. It’s become sort of a tradition. Last year, I got a suitcase because Kamehameha was sending me to Australia to chaperone a student exchange. This summer, I’m blessed to be attending a technology conference in Philadelphia. Our entire department will be going. I’m so grateful for this opportunity. Because summer in Philly is hot & sunny, I got myself a pair of Ray-Bans. I found a good price online from a reputable dealer. Here’s to tradition. Romance is so overrated…

A Valentine’s Day Gift

Buying a Valentine’s gift is an annual tradition for me. Unfortunately (or fortunately,) the gift is almost always for myself! One year it was a guitar, another year it was golf clubs…. This year, it’s a suitcase.

This is the Tumi T-Tech. I was set on purchasing the Tumi Vapor, which is the absolute coolest and sexiest luggage ever made. However, logic and common sense prevailed. The T-Tech is expandable and has external pockets. It is definitely more functional. Also, the Tumi store at the Waikele Premium Outlets had a big sale. I got this bag at half the price of a Vapor.

But really, this gift to myself is the gift of travel. I’ll be going to Australia this summer, and hopefully to Europe next Spring. My dream is to visit cool and interesting places, and this “gift” is the first step.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all! Cheers….
