KS Biathlon

Kamehameha High School held its annual biathlon this morning at Ala Moana Beach. Sophomores were required to swim half-a-mile and run 4 miles. Yikes! Freshmen had a choice of either a mile-and-a-half swim or a 6-mile run.

My volunteer duty was to videotape footage of the event for the PE department. My legs were sore from just bending down….

Reunion at Bravo’s….

Got together with my former grade level for dinner at Bravo’s in the Pearlridge Center. We taught 4th grade together at Kapolei Elementary. We were always a very close-knit team.

We had a great time talking and catching up on the latest. Hopefully, we’ll be able to take the time to do this more often. I had forgotten how much I miss them….

Weeds….

Of all the varieties of weeds in my yard, this is the one that I hate the most. I don’t know what it’s called. It has deep roots and an annoying yellow flower at the top. The flower seems to serve as the weed’s victory flag. It’s saying to me, “You dug me up, sprayed me with poison, and ran me over with your John Deere lawn mower. Is that the best you can do?”

This has become personal.

I’m on my way to Lowe’s Home & Garden to pick up a bottle of Roundup. We’ll see who gets the last laugh….

This Cross….

These crosses were passed out at yesterday’s Kamehameha Middle School chapel service. I was unable to participate due to an urgent 3rd grade project. I asked a KMS student if it were still possible to get one. Her eyes opened wide as she reached for her backpack. She explained to me that these crosses were passed out to the students as they stood in line. There was, in her words, a “gothic” looking student who tossed her cross onto the floor. She quickly picked it up and put it in her backpack. This cross is now the most precious keepsake that I own. Thanks Misty….

KES Easter Chapel Service

Kamehameha Elementary School held its Easter Chapel Service this past Monday. I was asked to take part in an Easter drama. Wayne played the role of Barabbas, Jay was Peter, and Sheryl played Mary Magdalene. I was cast in the role of Thomas.

What was most memorable for me was actually the worship music portion of the service. Being on stage, I was fortunate to have had the “best seat in the house.” Seeing the faces of the students during the songs gave me “chicken skin.”
